film opens with Ali (10 years) taking his sister Zahra's (8 years) shoes for repair to a shoe maker. He repairs them but on the way he halts at a vegetable vendor and looses her shoes there.
He informs his Zahra about the event. They are poor and fear the punishment they might get from their parents when they come to know about the loss. Then decide to keep it a secret. But in the school they need shoes. They make an arrangemant of using Ali's shoes. As Zahra has school in the morning she wears them , run's all the way to meet Ali who is waiting for her in a small place. They exchange shoes and he attends his school afterwards.
This exausting arrangement goes on for some time till Ali takes part in a school race which contains shoes as third prize. Ali runs with all his might. He wins first prize which is not the shoes.
Meanwhile Zahra fins out her shoes is being used by her school mate. she follows the girl to her house where she finds out her father is blind.
Zahra and the girl soon become friends.
In the end we see Ali's father cycling his way home and two pairs of shoes tied behind his cycle .
A pleasant and realistic film which keeps the viewer engrosed in the storytelling throughout. The restricted environment at home is depicted through the conversation which Ali and Zahra have , not by talking but writing to each other in a notebook .
The lifestyle of the people is shot in very intimate and realistic way.
A must watch children's film.
